Tips to choose some best LAPTOP

Since the advent of laptops, work has literally gone mobile. One can use a laptop anytime and anywhere and thus carry work wherever one goes. Going to the market to buy a laptop can be quite a confusing experience with plethora of laptops available, from basic laptops to the top of the line models. Some laptops now a days are more powerful than even the hottest desktop computers of yesterday. Hence, it is necessary that the consumer knows what he needs and what he is buying.

How to Choose a Laptop

Screen size: This is probably one of the most important factors (apart from processor and memory) which should be kept in mind while choosing a laptop. If you are used to having a large monitor for your desktop PC, choosing a fairly large screen size for your laptop becomes even more necessary. The standard screen size of laptops these days is 15" but there are larger sizes available as well. Companies like Dell even offer 19" and 20" screen sizes for certain models. Then, there are wide-screen monitors available for laptops these days. These are especially beneficial if you like to watch movies on your laptop of if you frequently use many applications side by side.

Processor: The CPU is the most important part of a PC or a laptop. This choice is not easy with so many options available to choose from in the market. The only two companies that make processors are Intel and AMD. Based on your requirements, you can choose a processor that is best for you in terms of both price and performance.

Memory: Now, memory is one thing which is never enough. The more you have, the better it is because it is the one thing (after the system processor) which would determine how fast and efficiently your work gets done. Most systems these days come pre-loaded with 1GB of RAM but make sure you can upgrade it later. Also, it is beneficial to know how much maximum amount of memory the laptop supports so that you don't have to go through trouble when you do plan to upgrade the memory.

Storage: This is yet another critical component in a laptop. All the files, folders, etc. that you have will be stored in the hard disk. Hence, choosing a large hard disk is of utmost importance. Go for 100 GB or more at the minimum if you don't want to run out of hard disk space real soon. There are 200-400 GB hard disk drives that are available these days, so, choose according to your requirement. Another thing to keep an eye out for while choosing storage is the speed of the hard disk. The higher the speed the better its performance will be (and the expensive it will be as well). Generally, hard disks come with 5,200 or 7,200 RPMs which is quite okay for everyday use.

Sturdiness: Pick up the laptop physically in your hand to know that you are comfortable with its weight. Also, make sure that it is sturdy, solid and does not feel too heavy. Also, if possible try out the keyboard. This is quite important since you cannot change the keyboard later (unlike in a desktop), so it helps in trying out the keyboard before you actually buy the laptop.

Pointing Device: Apart from checking the sturdiness of the laptop, don't forget to check out the pointing device in the laptop for its functioning. Make sure it's functioning properly and the way it is intended to. Also, see that the track ball and the track pad are in perfect condition. Although, you will be able to connect an external mouse to the laptop but the built-in device is handier when you are moving around.

Expansion Slots: Choose a laptop which has many expansion options. Make sure the laptop you buy has got atleast 3-4 USB2 connections and atleast one Firewire (IEEE 1394) port. USB2 and Firewire are a couple of very popular ways of connecting various devices to a laptop/desktop like digital cameras, mp3 players, cell phones, etc.

Wireless Connectivity: With the advent of wireless networks, it has become almost a necessity that the laptop that you buy has built-in Wi-Fi facility which will help you to surf the web once you are in a Wi-Fi enabled zone. A wireless network card, also called the 802.11 will free you from having to be wired all the time to connect to the internet. It is also beneficial to check whether the laptop has Bluetooth capability or not.

Optical Drives: Optical drives like a DVD-player, DVD-writer and Bluray player/ writer are quite useful when you want to burn your data onto a disc (DVD or BluRay) and keep it safe and secure. The optical devices make backing up your important documents, music files, pictures, etc. very easy because of the high capacity of the discs as well as the usability of these devices.

Battery Life: This might not seem as important as other points but you will surely want to look for a laptop which gives you decent to good battery life. A battery that lasts in the long run will help you once you are mobile. If you want to use your laptop for a long duration of time away from a power source, make sure that your laptop has a battery which lasts really long.

Tips To Stop Hair Loss

Ever wished you had a magic potion that would stop hair loss immediately. Who would not want to have something like that? But what people do not know that there are such magic potions that can prevent hair fall. All you need to do is to know what they are.

To prevent hair fall you need to have the right food. Your daily meal must contain a good amount of vitamins and minerals, proteins etc. A balanced diet is the key to healthy hair.

First of all, you have to take a good amount of biotin in your meals. Studies show that biotin is the best cure for hair fall. This not only prevents hair fall but also at the same time promotes hair growth. Another study show that intake of biotin has helped people suffering from alopecia to regain the thickness of hair successfully.
Now the question is what are the foods that contain biotin? Breads, cauliflower, egg yolks, nuts, dairy products, oatmeal — these are a good source of biotin.
Next in line is zinc. It works wonders to prevent hair fall. In order to have zinc you need to have beef, chicken, salmon etc.

We all know that green tea is an excellent anti-oxidant. But do we know that it helps to stop hair fall. Just make a mixture of rosemary, nettle tea, and sage and drink that mixture everyday. Just in case if you do not like the taste, then you can massage your scalp with this mixture as well. It is believed that the green tea increases the blood circulation in the scalp that promotes hair growth.
Other than taking the right food there is something else you have to do to get the right results. You have to massage the scalp regularly. Massage increases the blood flow in the scalp. This prevents the hair fall and promotes hair growth. For better results with massage, use coconut oil or castor oil, or a mixture of both. Oil is beneficial to hair.

Last but not the least; apply the juice of an onion on the scalp every alternate day. Keep the juice on the scalp for 10 minutes and then wash it with water. See the difference yourself.

Simple tips to be happy now

Make happiness a priority.
If happiness is not at the top of your list then other things will take precedence. If other things take precedence, they may well interfere with your efforts to feel good.

Make plans to be happy.
Those who fail to plan, plan to fail. Just like in any other life domain, the successful pursuit of happiness requires planning.

Set happy goals.
Following on from Tip 2, planning requires effective goal setting. And don’t forget to make sure your goals are SMART (specific, measurable, achievable, relevant and timed).

Do things that make you happy.
Although this sounds obvious, many people simple forget to do things from which they gain pleasure. And do them as often as possible.

Set yourself tasks from which you’ll gain satisfaction.
As well as pleasure and enjoyment, satisfaction is also an important part of happiness. So make sure that when you’re planning your tasks and activities you include things that might not be fun, but from which you’ll gain a sense of achievement.

Play and have fun.
Don’t take life too seriously. Although we all have responsibilities there’s no reason why we can’t approach much of our lives in a playful manner. In fact, those who do so will undoubtedly be happier.

Identify where your strengths lie.
Know where your faults and weaknesses are to avoid problems. Know where your strengths lie to be really happy and to succeed in life.

Learn to like and ideally to love yourself.
We must love before we can be loved. To love others and to be loved by others is a key component of happiness.

Invest time and energy in to your key relationships.
Happy people spend more time working on and in their relationships. Happy people
tend to be more supportive of other people in their life. Happy people are more generous and altruistic.

Live a healthy life.
Eat well and keep active. Exercise regularly. Although not impossible, it’s difficult to be happy if you’re constantly sick and not very healthy.

Live in the present moment.
The author, Henry Miller once said “Every moment is a golden one for him who has the vision to recognise it as such.” The only moment in which we can truly be happy is the present moment. The only moment over which we have control is the present moment. So be happy now! Because if not now, then when?

Make happiness an integral part of your life.
Develop happiness routines and make them a part of your every day living. Remind yourself however you can to do what you need to do and reward yourself as often as possible for doing what you’ve done.

Top 8 Dance Tips

Following are 8 tips to help you improve any style of dancing. No matter what your level of experience, these tips will help you to become a better dancer. Follow these tips to achieve satisfying results.

1. Find a Great Instructor
Experienced dancers know the importance of a good dance instructor. A dance teacher not only teaches new steps and techniques, but also corrects mistakes. If you are new to dance, choose your instructor carefully. If you have been taking lessons for awhile and don't seem to be improving, consider looking around for a different teacher. The more you dance, the more you realize what qualities you prefer in a dance instructor.

2. Watch Other Dancers
Rent a few dance movies or instructional DVD's. Watch the dancers closely, noting such things as body alignment, posture and technique. Try to find ways to incorporate styles you like into your own dancing.

3. Perfect Your Posture
Stand up straight, push your shoulders down and back, and hold your head up. It's truly amazing what good posture does for a dancer.

4. Stretch
Daily stretching will make your body much more flexible. A big goal in dancing is to make each move look effortless. The more limber your legs are, the easier it will be to move them. Make it a habit to stretch every day.

5. Improve Your Technique
Professional dancers spend their entire careers perfecting their technique. Good technique is what separates the good dancers from the best dancers. Learn new moves, but strive to perfect the skills of each step.

6. Wear Proper Shoes
Each dance style requires a specific type of shoe. Dance shoes are carefully structured to protect the legs and feet and to benefit the dancer. Make certain that you are dancing in the correct type of shoe and that the shoes are the right size.

7. Relax
Your body will dance its best in a relaxed state. Take a few deep breaths and clear your mind. Teach yourself to unwind to the music.

8. Smile
A smile is an expression of pleasure, happiness, or amusement. If you smile while you are dancing, people will get the feeling that you love what you are doing. Even if you are dancing alone, smile at yourself. You love to dance, so let it show!

Tip to Increase Your Broadband Speed !!

Although more and more people are getting super-fast broadband connections now, it's actually a very big problem that people have - in that their Internet seems to run slow no matter what. This is a problem that can have several causes, and there are actually several easy tricks you can use to fix the issue:

Step 1 - Close Programs That Constantly Use Internet Bandwidth - Programs such AIM, Skype and MSN are constantly using the Internet to connect to chat servers to get your buddy lists and information. This might seem harmless enough, but these programs are silently sucking your Internet connection dry. If you have them open constantly and your Internet is running slow, try closing them down.

Step 2 - Limit The Amount Of Web Pages You Have Open - Having 30 different web pages open is a big way to make your Internet connection run slowly. What happens in most Internet browsers is that many web pages are refreshed every few minutes, meaning that if you have many of them open, it will just make your connection run slower. Try limiting your browsing to just a few web page windows to ensure you don't suck up all your Internet with pointless browser Windows.

Step 3 - Stay Off Email Programs - Email programs like Outlook and Thunder bird are notorious for making your Internet run slower. This is a big problem because they not only keep checking to see if you have any more emails, but they can also download a lot of data as well. You should limit the amount of time you spend on these programs because they tend to slow your Internet right down.

Step 4 - Monitor Network PC Activity - Having a network is a good way to get more than one PC onto the Internet... but if your connection is running slow, it could be because one of your other computers is "hogging" all the bandwidth. You should keep a constant check to see if anyone is downloading any large files, watching online videos or playing games. If they are, then that will be the likely cause of your Internet running slow.

Step 5 - Clean Out The Registry - The registry is a database which keeps the settings of your PC stored, but it's also a cause of your Internet running slowly as well. The problem is that whenever you use your computer, it needs to open up settings which tell it how to get onto the Internet (such as which ports to use, etc). Unfortunately, many of those settings become damaged and unreadable, making your computer slow to process any web page you visit. You can fix this very easily by using a 'registry cleaner' to scan through these Internet settings and fix any of the damaged ones that might be causing your Internet to run slowly.

7 Tips for Learning Guitar Chords

If you're like many guitarists out there who want to learn guitar chords but are having some trouble, then this article is for you. I'll cover some key aspects that are often overlooked by tutors and "learn the guitar" products; I guarantee you'll be able to learn guitar chords much easier after reading this article.

1. Do exercises

Ok, so don't jump in your car and go to your local gym for workout, it's just not going to help that much. What I mean by exercises is to do some guitar chord exercises. For example if you are trying to learn the G chord a good exercise to practice would be picking each note and then strumming, this will give you a good idea of how well you have formed the chord. If you're hitting a lot of dead notes they will become obvious when you pick through each note.

2. Practice in your head

Yes, it sounds silly, but the science and results of this method are stacking up like apartments in Manhattan. If you're not already trying to learn guitar chords in your head then you're putting yourself at a severe disadvantage. Try this: Picture yourself holding your guitar, zoom in one the neck where you are going to form the chord. Now put your fingers on the strings and really concentrate on how you are going to get each finger into position. Those of you who already use this method know how powerful it is. If you don't think it works then I only ask that you try it for one week and see what kind of results you get, you will be pleasantly surprised.

3. Do easy changes

Changing from one chord to another is without a doubt the best way to learn guitar chords. You're putting yourself under pressure and committing the guitar chord shape to your muscle memory. Once you have it in your muscle memory it becomes a lot easier to form the chord again. Here are some simple changes to try: G Add 9 to C Add 9, A to E, C to G. For more exercises visit our Instant Guitarist website.

4. Build finger strength

Well I told you off for going to the gym earlier, but now it's not such a silly idea. Building finger strength is often a slow (and sometimes painful) experience, but it doesn't have to be that way. Practising scales, doing finger weights, and if you're really keen finger press-ups are all great ways to improve your finger strength. One thing to remember is moderation, don't over do it, just a few exercises a day should be plenty.

5. Look at other people

Don't just look at anyone… they might think you're weird. Look at guitarists! Notice the way they jump from chord to chord and how they are forming each chord. It's such a good way to learn by example, however I need to give this disclaimer. It's great, but you need to be careful not to copy bad habits, and a lot of the guitarists out there are limited by the bad habits they pick up from inexperienced tutors and rubbish guitar tutorials.

6. Wear a blind fold

Yeah I guess it does sound a bit rude, but if you want to be the ultimate Zen master and learn guitar chords quickly it's a good idea to try it out. I don't really wear a blindfold when I do this method; I just make sure I'm not looking at my hands when changing from one chord to another. To start with it will be too tricky to change chords, just try forming a G without looking at the fret-board, then give it a strum, pick each note and see how well you did. I've seen people have great success with this method, so I'm sure this will work for your playing.

7. Three at a time

Learn three chords at a time, I don't know why this works, but it just does. Maybe it's a magic number that our brains relate to, who knows? They key thing is that if you pick three guitar chords you want to learn and keep practising them, then you're going to learn guitar chords a lot faster than if you just pick one or two. I'd recommend starting out with some of the easier ones (D, A, E, G), pick three of those and get to it!

Tricks to get on Facebook from school or work

Answer:

Just like many other huge Social Networking web sites (MySpace, Hi5, Bebo etc), Facebook is blocked at most colleges and workplaces. These authorities try to keep you on task by eliminating the option to get on such web sites. To get past their “blocks” and access Facebook at school or work you will need to use a free proxy. By using a web proxy you are able to still view the website even though they have it blocked. Most proxies are quite straightforward to use, so the most time consuming task will be to find a proxy web site which wasn’t already blocked by your school or workplace. Follow these instructions below to learn how to do this:

1. Get on one of the proxy sites listed in this free proxy list or alternatively search in one of these other proxy lists.

2. Now by typing in Facebook.com you should be to able to surf Facebook and the entire web anonymously.

What if a free proxy is blocked?

Here’s a new way to overcome Facebook blockage at school or workplace: a Facebook application that allows you to identify proxy web pages that will help you to unblock Facebook at school.

Many readers wrote us that they are able to get on Facebook using the "https" protocol and without using a web proxy. For what it worth, you might want to try this method as well. You can find the details on this post.

12 Simple Tips For Relationship Bliss

1. Mind your manners.

“Please,” “thank you” and “you’re welcome,” can go a long way in helping your partner
remember that you respect and love him and don’t take him for granted.

2. Variety is the spice of life.

Studies have shown that dullness can lead to dissatisfaction with a relationship.
Trying something new can be as simple as visiting an unfamiliar restaurant or as grand as a backpacking trip through Sri Lanka. Discoveries you make together will keep you feeling close.

3. The couple that plays together, stays together.

Find a sport or hobby that you both love (no, watching TV does not count) and make that a priority in your relationship. Camping, biking, building model trains… whatever it is, find something you enjoy doing together.

4. Fight right.

In order to have productive arguments, keep these rules in mind. Don’t call your spouse names. When things get really tough, take a break from the argument. Let the other person finish his/her sentences. Don’t initiate a discussion when you’re angry.

5. I’ll scratch your back if you scratch mine.

No one likes demands (unless you’re in a BDSM role play), but everyone can appreciate a compromise. If you want your lover to do something and you’re not sure he’ll be agreeable, the quickest way to avoid a confrontation is to sweeten the deal. For example: “Sure, I’ll watch Monday Night Football if you take me to see the next movie of my choice.”

6. Two heads are better than one.

Being in a relationship basically means you’ve made a merger; you’ve not only joined assets but inherited the other’s problems as well. Rather than looking at his problems as merely his own, tackle them together. For example, if he’s gaining weight, rather than pushing him to diet on his own, enroll in an exercise program together.

7. Distance makes the heart grow fonder.

Maintain your own friendships and occasionally have a night out without your significant other. Doing things without your s.o. not only makes you miss him or her, it also keeps you sane. And, in case the relationship doesn’t work out, you’ll still have your friends.

8. Sound it out.

In other words: communicate! Talking out the tough subjects—money, religion, fidelity, raising kids—will not be the most fun you’ve had, but it’ll be valuable.

9. Laughter is the best medicine.

Learn to laugh at yourself and at silly mistakes. If he throws your $300 cashmere sweater in the dryer, laughing it off is, in the long run, better than getting angry. It’s is just a $300 cashmere sweater, not the end of the world.

10. Keep your eyes on the prize.

Yes, he forgot your co-worker’s name for the tenth time, but it probably doesn’t mean he doesn’t care about you. If you keep your perspective fixed on the goal—to be in a happy, functioning partnership—you’re less likely to get tangled up in every minor annoyance. Remember, you both want the same thing

11. Quitters never win.

Find a ritual and keep it alive, no matter what. Whether it’s always kissing each other good night, renewing wedding vows every year, sleeping in as late as you want once a month or committing to having sex once a week, pick something that makes you both feel good and stick to it, even when you’re tempted to skip.

12. When the going gets tough, the tough get going… to therapy.

Studies show that couples who seek counseling during rocky periods are more successful in resolving their issues than those who don’t. Whether its from a religious figure, counselor or mental health professional, getting an expert to help sort out strife is as wise as forgoing self-installation and hiring a plumber to put in a new sink.

9 simple resume writing tips

1) Learn copywriting

Copywriters are paid to persuade. Their words will drive consumers to purchase goods and services. Learn the art of selling yourself through text. Learn about the words which influence others. Land some interviews by writing awesome copy.

2) Leave room for references

You have stunning recommendations from your previous employers. Your future employer will be more apt to check on these references if you make the information immediately available. You have nothing to hide on your resume. A chance for a great referral shouldn’t be lost.

3) Be different

Do not be lazy with the formatting of your resume. There are numerous ways to structure information, but many fall back on the cut and dried resume templates offered by popular word processing programs. Use unusual and readable fonts. Change the structure and offer something out of the ordinary to catch the recruiter’s eye.

4) Use keywords

Your resume will be skimmed to see if you fit the position. By defining your experience in terms of the key words on the job posting, you stand out more than the person who did not use the key words from the job posting.

5) Action words

Think of your resume from the recruiter’s standpoint. It is one of many that must be filtered through to find that perfect applicant. You have read ‘responsible for X’ and ‘responsible for Y’ so many times that you have stopped paying attention to anything past the word ‘for.’ As an applicant, use action words which further describe your duties.

6) Keep it simple

HR professionals are skimming through many resumes. They are more likely to set aside resumes which quickly highlight pertinent experience. If you bury your professional qualifications under a mountain of words, there is a great chance that it will be overlooked in favor of the simple and direct resume. Use bullet points and very short paragraphs.

7) Be specific

Recruiters want to know about your numbers. They want to know the specific details about your previous job duties, rather than general information. There is a distinct difference between the person who handled 20 customers per day and the one who satisfied 200 customers per day.

8) Keep it skills-based

There are skills which are useful in every profession. Can you sell yourself and the company’s products? Are you a team player who is quick to see the big picture? Are you a fast learner who can operate any piece of equipment? You might be looking for a position which is not in your original field. A skills-based resume is excellent for those who want to experience a different profession.

9) Editing is essential

Technical errors within a resume are sloppy. The recruiter expects you to pay attention to detail. Read your resume repeatedly, checking for grammatical and typographical errors. When you are finished with your proofing, have a friend proof it.

Show your future employer that you care about their company. Stand out by using simple action words in your resume. Pay special attention to the key words that were used in the job posting. People with better resumes get more interviews.

Black Hair Care Tips

# A healthier lifestyle will result in healthier hair.

# Massaging your scalp on a regular basis will stimulate oil production, which will help reduce the dryness of your hair.

# Daily shampooing is not recommended, ethnic hair is dryer than other types of hair, shampooing strips away the oils from your hair so try shampooing once every 3 to 7 days instead.

# If you engage in daily activities that cause you to sweat, it is recommended that you rinse your hair out with water and only use shampoo on occasion, but if you feel the need to use a mild shampoo, go ahead and do so.

# Use a mild moisturizing shampoo with a low PH level when washing your hair.

# Don't use a 2 in 1 shampoo and conditioner, use a separate shampoo and conditioner, 2 in 1's aren't suited as well for dry hair.

# When washing your hair rub only in one direction to avoid tangling.

# Shower with warm water, hot water can dry and/or irritate the scalp.

# Oil your scalp after shampooing, with your hair still moist, massage the oil into your scalp and brush out to the ends of your hair.

# Use a conditioner when you shower, it'll moisturize your hair, give it extra protection, add shine, reduce static, and makes it easier to untangle.

# If you want to store fish for more than a day, first clean it, rub it with salt, turmeric and maybe, a dash of vinegar, and then freeze. It will stay fresh.

# Don't salt meat before you cook it. The salt forces the juices out and impedes browning. Instead, salt meat halfway through cooking, then taste when the meat is done and adjust the salt as needed.

# Meat that is partially frozen is much easier to cut or slice.

# Cooking of hamburgers may take hell of a long time. To cook them a little faster, you could poke a hole in the middle of the hamburger patties while shaping them. This helps them cook faster and the holes disappear once the burgers are done.

# How can you tell that steaks are done? Color can be a good indicator of doneness.
This is because myoglobin which gives meat its color, changes from red to pink to brown as meat cooks. A rare steak is bright red. A medium-rare steak is dark pink with some red present; a medium steak is very light pink in color and of course, well-done is brown.

Top 10 Tips for Great Pictures

Do you wish you were a better photographer? All it takes is a little know-how and experience. Keep reading for some important picture-taking tips. Then grab your camera and start shooting your way to great pictures.

1. Look your subject in the eye

Direct eye contact can be as engaging in a picture as it is in real life. When taking a picture of someone, hold the camera at the person's eye level to unleash the power of those magnetic gazes and mesmerizing smiles. For children, that means stooping to their level. And your subject need not always stare at the camera. All by itself that eye level angle will create a personal and inviting feeling that pulls you into the picture.

2. Use a plain background

A plain background shows off the subject you are photographing. When you look through the camera viewfinder, force yourself to study the area surrounding your subject. Make sure no poles grow from the head of your favorite niece and that no cars seem to dangle from her ears.

3. Use flash outdoors

Bright sun can create unattractive deep facial shadows. Eliminate the shadows by using your flash to lighten the face. When taking people pictures on sunny days, turn your flash on. You may have a choice of fill-flash mode or full-flash mode. If the person is within five feet, use the fill-flash mode; beyond five feet, the full-power mode may be required. With a digital camera, use the picture display panel to review the results.

On cloudy days, use the camera's fill-flash mode if it has one. The flash will brighten up people's faces and make them stand out. Also take a picture without the flash, because the soft light of overcast days sometimes gives quite pleasing results by itself.

4. Move in close

If your subject is smaller than a car, take a step or two closer before taking the picture and zoom in on your subject. Your goal is to fill the picture area with the subject you are photographing. Up close you can reveal telling details, like a sprinkle of freckles or an arched eyebrow.

But don't get too close or your pictures will be blurry. The closest focusing distance for most cameras is about three feet, or about one step away from your camera. If you get closer than the closest focusing distance of your camera (see your manual to be sure), your pictures will be blurry.

5. Move it from the middle

Center-stage is a great place for a performer to be. However, the middle of your picture is not the best place for your subject. Bring your picture to life by simply moving your subject away from the middle of your picture. Start by playing tick-tack-toe with subject position. Imagine a tick-tack-toe grid in your viewfinder. Now place your important subject at one of the intersections of lines.

You'll need to lock the focus if you have an auto-focus camera because most of them focus on whatever is in the center of the viewfinder.

6. Lock the focus

If your subject is not in the center of the picture, you need to lock the focus to create a sharp picture. Most auto-focus cameras focus on whatever is in the center of the picture. But to improve pictures, you will often want to move the subject away from the center of the picture. If you don't want a blurred picture, you'll need to first lock the focus with the subject in the middle and then recompose the picture so the subject is away from the middle.

Usually you can lock the focus in three steps. First, center the subject and press and hold the shutter button halfway down. Second, reposition your camera (while still holding the shutter button) so the subject is away from the center. And third, finish by pressing the shutter button all the way down to take the picture.

7. Know your flash's range

The number one flash mistake is taking pictures beyond the flash's range. Why is this a mistake? Because pictures taken beyond the maximum flash range will be too dark. For many cameras, the maximum flash range is less than fifteen feet—about five steps away.

What is your camera's flash range? Look it up in your camera manual. Can't find it? Then don't take a chance. Position yourself so subjects are no farther than ten feet away. Film users can extend the flash range by using Kodak Max versatility or versatility plus film.

8. Watch the light

Next to the subject, the most important part of every picture is the light. It affects the appearance of everything you photograph. On a great-grandmother, bright sunlight from the side can enhance wrinkles. But the soft light of a cloudy day can subdue those same wrinkles.

Don't like the light on your subject? Then move yourself or your subject. For landscapes, try to take pictures early or late in the day when the light is orangish and rakes across the land.

9. Take some vertical pictures

Is your camera vertically challenged? It is if you never turn it sideways to take a vertical picture. All sorts of things look better in a vertical picture. From a lighthouse near a cliff to the Eiffel Tower to your four-year-old niece jumping in a puddle. So next time out, make a conscious effort to turn your camera sideways and take some vertical pictures.

10. Be a picture director

Take control of your picture-taking and watch your pictures dramatically improve. Become a picture director, not just a passive picture-taker. A picture director takes charge. A picture director picks the location: "Everybody go outside to the backyard." A picture director adds props: "Girls, put on your pink sunglasses." A picture director arranges people: "Now move in close, and lean toward the camera."
Most pictures won't be that involved, but you get the idea: Take charge of your pictures and win your own best picture awards.

10 Practical Tips for Project Work

1. Discuss with students the “Why” of project work

Project work is time-consuming for students, and it is important that they focus their use of time on accomplishing valued outcomes. The most important outcome is that students should understand more about a topic as a result of engaging in project work. This understanding comes through:
• Learning from experience
• Applying concepts and theories in practice
• Integrating multiple sources of information, from different areas into a whole
• Problem solving

2. Provide clear instructions and guidelines for students

Generally students enjoy participating in project work. However they can become frustrated when it is not clear what is expected of them, nor how their work will be assessed. As a minimum the following should be made clear to students - via written material and discussion of it.
• What students are expected to do in completing the project
• When various tasks should be accomplished
• How they should go about completing the tasks
• Especially, what are the criteria for assessing the work

3. Help students to start on the right track

Time spent with students early on is a good investment: it helps to ensure that serious difficulties and time-wasting do not occur at a later stage.
• Provide them with some initial references / materials / resources to ensure that they start off in the right direction
• If the project involves students in making contacts and collecting information from
people outside PolyU, help them to make these contacts Also, monitor student progress closely at the start.

4. Provide choice in the project topic

Students generally prefer to work on projects that they have selected for themselves - and learn more as a result. However, they will almost certainly need some assistance in developing a topic and working out how to go about it.

5. Set up a system for regular meetings with students

Even if the project has been discussed with students in detail, and they are clear about what they have to do, they will inevitably encounter problems and be in need of advice and support. It is preferable to schedule regular, short meeting with students to give them feedback on progress and ensure that they are on target. Ask them to submit a short written report on progress a day or so before the meeting, and use this as the basis for discussion and feedback.

6. Check that students have the necessary skills to solve problems encountered in the project.

Generally, projects require that students carry out library research, gather data, analyse it, write up a report, etc. There are specific skills and competences involved in these tasks. Try to make sure that students have these necessary skills, and assist them to acquire them if they do not. For example students may not know very well how to go about constructing a survey questionnaire, carrying out interviews, conducting computer searches of data bases, etc. etc.

7. Give students as much autonomy as possible

Students need to be monitored. At the same time they need some autonomy in deciding how to carry out the project. They will feel more of a sense of “ownership” and commitment, and are likely to learn more as a result

8. Encourage students by praising good work in progress

Students need to have their motivation sustained when a project is an extended piece of work.
Positive feedback for work well done is a powerful motivator

9. Be aware of the difficulties that students might encounter in group projects

When students are required to work in groups to carry out a piece of work, then there are some difficulties that are commonly encountered. These can be addressed by structuring the project appropriately and checking on them in the regular meetings. Common difficulties include the following.
• Scheduling convenient times and locations for group meetings
• Some members not finishing assigned tasks on time, and holding up the rest of the group
• Different attitudes and motivations of group members
• Interpersonal “politics” and conflicts
• Awarding of grades, fairly

10. Support students and empathise with them

Try to develop a “we” culture with students, where students and staff are partners in the project with different roles to play.

Tips on How to Lose Weight Fast

Having a lean and trim body is the dream of many. Yet a majority of them are affected by obesity, one of the greatest health problems of the era. Losing weight therefore is a necessity but one has to be careful about losing weight fast, but following the healthy way without inviting unwarranted health hazards.

Obesity is considered to be a curse by many. This is one feature that completely destroys your dream of having a lean and trim body. Accumulation of extra fat around the waist and other parts of the body makes one overweight. To get out of such state people often resort to multiple ways of losing weight. However in their enthusiasm in losing weight, they invite unwarranted health hazards. Such hazards are often the consequences of wrong dieting and workouts. Above all; they fail in their prime objective of losing weight.

Reasons for People Failing to Lose Weight

Popular belief associates losing weight with laziness, food addiction, lack of exercise and several such reasons.

Contrary to such belief the reason lies elsewhere. One should properly appreciate the difference between being heavy weight and overweight. A muscular body with six abs weighing 200 pounds may not be considered overweight while an unshapely body with loose muscles weighing half the weight could be considered overweight.

Major reasons for failure in losing weight are- Taking to a balanced diet but not sticking to it after losing considerable weight. Result is gaining back the lost weight. Failure to change the life style causes people gain unwanted fat and weight.

Misleading facts and commercial ads meant to promote products not having the qualities they boast of result in people resorting to wrong items for weight loss. These include foods, supplements, drugs, as well as equipments.

Failure to appreciate the calorie intake and consumption that could balance the fat contents in the body. Neither gaining nor losing too much fat would be good. Skinny body is as bad as obesity.

Weight Loss Plan need not be Painful

One of the essential aspects for healthy weight loss is losing calories in a painless manner. People are often apprehensive that weight loss could be extremely painful and strenuous. In fact weight loss could be as easy as cutting a meatball here or an egg roll there. Losing a pound a month of fat is possible by cutting around 100 calories a day. One pound of fat will equal nearly 3,500 calories and losing around hundred calories a day could achieve the goal. A little change your life style will suffice for the purpose without going for big diet restrictions or very strenuous workouts.

Some Painless Methods of Fat Loss

If one could observe the following methods, he or she could lose weight rather painlessly.

- Reducing the food components like butter, milk, and other fat containing components by around 30% to 50% of your original diets;

- Compensating the lost quantity of such food with items containing fibers;

- Increasing the intake of water and other liquids but not things like cold drinks or other artificial liquids;

- Resorting to easy workouts like walking or a few free hand exercises without straining the body too much or at short intervals;

- Maintaining the changed life style for all times to come instead of resorting to and going out of such life style every now and then.

Losing Weight Requires Effort

While it is possible losing weight the painless way, it does not mean that you do not have to pay for it. You will be able to lose weight after resorting to balanced diet and organized workouts but once you get back to your past life style, it would be great frustration seeing all the lost weight come back again. That is why it requires a lot of effort, not to indulge into strenuous workouts of fad diets but to maintain the disciplined life style that helped you lose weight considerably. It is well said that remaining at the top is more difficult than reaching it.

Failure is the Pillar of Success

In any case, never allow failure to deter you. Once you have taken to the combination of balanced diet, reasonably good workout and disciplined life, success is bound to come in terms of losing weight. True, the initial results may not be as fast as you expected them to be but the ultimate success will be yours. Always remember that there is no substitute for plain hard work. Exceptionally well built figures you see on the ad posters are not built in a day. They are all results of years of dieting and disciplined life. Losing weight requires preparation, efforts as well as commitment.

Exercise Melts Body Fat

Many people carry the wrong notion that just decreasing their diet can reduce fat and weight. In fact it is required to focus on increasing the amount of exercises rather than decreasing the food intake. Fat accumulation has significant relationship with physical activity. Generally walking, taking the stairs instead of elevator, sitting up instead of lying down and using some excitements can considerably reduce body fat by burning enough calories in the process. In fact even half hour workout will burn fewer calories than minute-to-minute movement in office or home.

Benefit of Walking

When it comes to exercising without pain, there could be no substitute to simple walking. Again it is important remembering that it is not speed but the time that is the essence. Waling at moderate pace strengthens the bones, controls the weight, and tones up the leg muscle. Best benefit of walking as exercise is that it improves positive self assurance in the performer.

Conclusion

Millions of Americans aspire to lose weight and for this purpose they spend billions of dollars on diet programs and products. Yet many of them regain the lost weight after a few years. Sadly enough many of them fell prey to unsavory commercial promotional campaigns where products or equipments claims to work miracles in burning fat while in truth they perform no such thing. Important thing to remember is that simple dieting cannot help reduce weight. Exercise is fundamental for fat loss. Forgetting this simple equation has cost many weight loss aspirants quite dearly.

10 tips to gain weight

Everyone talks about weight loss, but what about those who are desperate to gain a few kilos?

"I am a 50 kg weakling!" complains Kishore, who has tried all kinds of remedies including high calorie weight gain powders, liver tablets, weight gain drinks and even colon cleansing.

Before we tackle that, though, let us first understand how do you know you are underweight? Simple. Calculate your Body Mass Index. If it is less than 18.5, you are underweight.

Your BMI or body mass index is your weight in kilos divided by the square of your height in metres. (The normal BMI is 18.5 to 24.9).

There are numerous supplements in the weight gain market that might help increase daily caloric intake, yet they have no benefits when compared to smart food choices.

Your mantra for today -- exercise

The basic principle of weight gain is simple: You need to consume more calories than you expend. Follow these 10 tips.

i. Eat more calories

This involves some calculation. The approximate normal daily caloric requirement for an average male who performs light activity is 2,200; for a female, it is 1,900.You need to eat around 1,000 extra calories per day to gain less than half a kilo a week.

Do the math. Eat larger portions and eat at least five meals a day.

Your actual caloric requirement can differ depending on your height, weight, activity level and your body's metabolic rate.

ii. Make smart choices

For example, choose dairy products, fish and meat over bread. Choose eggs over vegetables.

Eat foods with high protein content such as beans, pulses and peas, and foods with high starch content such as potatoes, rice and tapioca.

One hour spinning = perfect body

iii. Protein is important

Increase your protein intake. Your body needs a lot of protein to build new muscle. But since most of the calories for weight gain comes from carbohydrates and fats, do not replace them with protein.

iv. Snack a lot

Consume a lot of high-calorie snacks (not junk food) such as cheese sticks, milk shakes, muffins, dried fruits, yoghurt and breakfast bars.

v. Fluids help too

Drink a lot of fluids that supply nutrients and calories; milk, fresh fruit juices and energy drinks are good examples.

vi. Intensify workouts

Aerobics are great, right? Not for weight gain!

You need to exercise really hard and intensely to gain muscle mass.

vii. Weights are the way to go

Focus on free weight exercises (which do not require machinery) that target your large muscle groups. For example, you need dumbells, not fancy gym machines.

Free weights put the most stress on muscles and stimulate the maximum number of muscle fibres.

The best weight training exercises for building muscle mass are free weight exercises like squats, dead lifts, bench presses, barbell rows, pull ups and bar dips.

These exercises are best done under supervision, but they don't need machinery.

viii. Space out your workouts

If you have a high basic metabolic rate -- which means you expend a lot of energy even at rest -- you need short intense workouts instead of long periods of low-stress activity.

ix. Creatine?

Creatine supplements can help some athletes gain weight. It is not known if it is because it gives them spurts of energy or because it adds water weight.

More research is needed in this area before Creatine becomes that magic pill. Creatine supplements are available at all major health food stores, but do not take it without consulting your doctor.

x. Be consistent

It might take a long time, usually a few months, for the weight to actually show. Some people get frustrated and quit when they fail to see drastic results.

Your body will only responds to a consistent schedule. No weight gain programme will work for you if you are not regular.

Heredity does pay a major role in determining your weight. Effective weight training and a smart diet can help you exceed your genetically predetermined weight.
